Saturday, May 2nd - THAI MASSAGES

Today was a totally relaxing day. It is 7:54 p.m. and we are still in our bathing suits.
I want to talk about our breakfasts as it is truly an international experience. Today, the hotel is very full, with lots of families and a huge Japanese tour group. As I looked around the dining room I saw many Japanese eating omelets and bacon and eggs and pancakes and they were awkwardly using knives and forks, many Chinese trying french toast and bread with cheese and jams and lots of pastries, Europeans eating Thai noodles and Japanese miso soup and Chinese Dim Sum. Then there were the Japanese sticking with their typical breakfast of miso soup with lots of stuff in it, white steamed rice with chicken or beef and pickled vegetables and the Chinese eating their congee with chicken, dim sum, and some noodles with sauteed vegetables. The Thais are definitely eating noodle soup and some rice with shrimp or chicken or pork. Lenny is still eating his cereal and egg white omelets or a bagel with delicious smoked salmon and a watery cream cheese. Today, I chose the Japanese breakfast and had some miso soup and a Japanese egg concoction with shrimp, some wonderful tropical fruit and yes, a bloody mary! We are both really enjoying the yellow watermelon and pineapple. They also make wonderful decaf capuccino so we are all set. I have also been very good at making an extra bagel and lox and sneaking it into my purse and this is what we have been sharing for lunch.

We spent the rest of the day at the pool, reading and answering a few emails. The highlight of my day was a Thai massage on the beach - one hour of sheer luxury for about $11.00 us or 400 baht. Early on, we had tried a Thai foot massage in Bangkok - Lenny did it with a lot of prodding from me - "hey, we're in Thailand, this is what we need to do" and so it was the same today. I had my massage and thought it was so wonderful that I almost physically dragged Lenny down to the beach to give it a try. He was reluctant but I think that he really enjoyed it. Len continues to struggle with what we think is a rotator cuff issue and the woman who worked on him gave him a good arm massage as she said that she was aware of what to do and what not to do with this issue. I am afraid that he probably has a tear and he is going to need an MRI when we get home. In the meantime, he is coping but definitely has pain.

Today, I discovered that there is actually a British Pub close by our hotel with good food and reasonable prices so we are going to give that a try tonight.
